Stephen Rodrigues-Paväo, tenor, will be accompanied by pianist Margaret Runaas in a recital March 7 at Central College.
Rodrigues-Paväo is an accomplished Portuguese-American musician from Madison, Wis. He researches and performs traditional Spanish and Portuguese renaissance music as well as more contemporary folk tunes. As an opera singer, he has sung roles from Puccini’s “La Boheme,” Donizetti’s “Lucia di Lammermoor” and Verdi’s “Falstaff.” He is also a songwriter, taking inspiration from his family’s Portuguese musical tradition.
Runaas is an instructor of music in piano and theory at Iowa Wesleyan College in Mount Pleasant. She teaches courses in applied piano, piano pedagogy, music theory and sight singing, and serves as the staff accompanist. Runaas completed a master’s degree in piano performance at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and is working toward a doctorate in piano performance and pedagogy at the University of Iowa.
Rodrigues- Paväo and Runaas have collaborated since 2011. They will perform in the Upper Chapel at 7:30 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.
