PELLA — Eight Central College seniors will hold final art exhibitions in Mills Gallery in the Lubbers Center for the Visual Arts Wednesday, April 27 – Saturday, May 14. The event is free and open to the public. An opening reception will be Friday, April 29, from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Gallery hours are Monday-Friday, 8 a.m.-5 p.m.
Trevor Book uses paint of glass and light sources from several different angles. The light alters the color pigments, changing what the viewer sees. Book is an art major from Minneapolis, Minn., and a graduate of Champlin Park High School.
Carole Mapes, an environmental studies major from Earlham and graduate of Earlham High School, will present “Soil as Storyteller.” It features a scroll with scientific diagrams, pictures of fossils and other geological events. She was inspired by the geology of Iowa and the images and concepts behind it.
Samantha Regan’s show is composed of glazed pottery arranged to represent a landscape. The audience is invited to take a piece and as the landscape changes, pictures will be posted around the piece. Regan is an art major from Decorah and a graduate of Decorah High School.
Brandon Rose, an art major from Lonedell, Mo. and a graduate of Sullivan High School, explores the idea of money as a religion in his show “In Money We Trust.” His sculptures are made of Plexiglas, metal, plastic, cardboard and wood. Rose was inspired by the artist Tom Sachs.
Katie Tenboer used paper to create a paper sculpture installation. An art major, Tenboer is from Morrison, Ill. and graduated from Morrison High School.
Other exhibitors include art major Marlyn Hoksbergen of Pella; Richard Plagman, an art major from Shelby and graduate of AHST High School; and art major Jacob Veldhuizen from Wausau, Wis., a graduate of Wausau East High School.
