Printmaker Craig Cornwall hosts lecture and workshop

Printmaker Craig Cornwall will host a public lecture and workshop at Central College during his tenure as Allison B. Allen artist-in-residence March 26-28. An exhibit of Cornwall’s prints will also be on display at Central’s Mills Gallery March 21-April 20.

Cornwall’s public lecture, “For the love of prints,” will be held in the Mills Gallery March 26 at 6:30 p.m. The presentation is about the love printmakers have for their time-consuming and difficult-to-learn medium, and it highlights Cornwall’s particular fascination with lithography. A reception for the artist will follow the lecture.

The public workshop, “Understanding the magic of lithography and the art of collaboration,” will be held March 27 at 6:30 p.m. in the print studio in the Lubbers Center for the Visual Arts. Cornwall will demonstrate the making of a lithograph, from drawing on the plate to printing the image in collaboration with workshop participants.

Cornwall earned a bachelor of fine arts from Brigham Young University, a master’s degree from the University of New Mexico and graduated as Master Printer from the Tamarind Institute, an institution specializing in lithography. He is the owner of Trilobite Workshop, a printmaking studio where he hosts classes and workshops and produces limited edition prints. He also owns Stones Crayons, an organization that hand-makes lithography supplies.

In addition to his public presentations, Cornwall will host workshops and classes for Central students during his time on campus.

This residency program is made available through a generous gift of Hutch and Gretchen Bearce, in memory of Allison B. Allen, artist and teacher.

All events are free and open to the public. Advance registration for the March 27 workshop is required. To reserve a spot, contact Mat Kelly at kellym@central.edu or 641-628-5122.
