Obama executive at Central College

Thursday, Pella Corporation invited Michelle Moore, Obama Administration’s Federal Environmental Executive responsible for promoting sustainability and environmental stewardship throughout the federal government’s operations, to visit Pella. While on campus, she met with students who gave presentations about Central’s green initiatives and toured the Roe Center, Central’s platinum-rated Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) building. Central teamed up with EFCO Corporation, a Pella Company, to install energy efficient windows throughout the educational facility to help receive one of the state’s first platinum ratings from U.S. Building Council.

Housed within the White House Council on Environmental Quality, the Office of the Federal Environmental Executive stewards the implementation of President Obama’s Executive Order on Federal Sustainability and the GreenGov initiative. Previously, Moore was senior vice president of policy and public affairs at the U.S. Green Building Council.

Central College has three LEED-rated buildings on campus: Vermeer Science Center, the first LEED-rated building in Iowa; Howard McKee Hall, the first residential hall in Iowa to receive a LEED certification; and the Roe Center.
