New executive assistant to the president hired

Carma Sturtz has been hired as the executive assistant to the president. She will begin in the position Monday, Oct. 15.

Sturtz has more than 20 years of corporate experience supporting board members and senior executives. She most recently served as the administrative assistant to the president and CEO of Progress Industries, Inc., in Newton and as the office manager and administrative assistant to the Newton Development Corporation.

Prior to that, Sturtz was the administrative assistant to the chairman of the Maytag Corporation.  She also served in various administrative positions at Maytag, including executive secretary and compensation administrator, support to the senior vice president of human resources and executive secretary to the president of Maytag Appliances, president of Maytag International and vice president of strategic marketing. Additionally, Sturtz was an executive assistant at Pella Corporation for the vice president of engineering.

A Central alumna, Sturtz and her husband Stan ’81 have a daughter Mallory, a senior at Central, and two sons at home. Additional Central family connections include her brother, Michael Horstmann ’88 and sister-in-law Erika Herter Horstmann ’88; sister Cindy Horstmann Gibbs ’95 and brother-in-law Casey ’95; and nephew Austin Aldrich, currently a junior at Central.

“Carma’s strong affiliation and passion for Central College and the community positions her well in connecting and building relationships with current and future members of the Central family,” said Mark Putnam, Central College president.

In this position, Sturtz will ensure the overall effectiveness and efficiency of the president’s role while working closely with the senior leadership team and supporting the secretary of the college, the board of trustees, the president’s wife Tammy and special initiatives.
