MLK events Jan. 17

PELLA — Central College students, alumni, staff and faculty will honor the spirit of Martin Luther King Jr.’s life and work at a convocation Monday, Jan. 17, in Douwstra Auditorium at 11 a.m. The event is free and open to the public.

Presentations will include an essay written by Bruce Anderson, a 1970 alumnus, about his freshman year at Central and a reading by Jim Zaffiro, professor of political science, of a letter Martin Luther King Jr. wrote during the Vietnam War. Ben Chestnut, a junior exercise science major from Bettendorf, and Ryan Shuey, a sophomore from Corning, will read essays. Senior art major Katie Tenboer of Morrison, Ill. will talk about some of her artwork. The convocation will also include a vocal performance by Terri Crumley, director of admission and adjunct professor of music.
