The Central College board of trustees honored colleague Dave Wesselink ’64, dedicating one of three new campus signage pieces in his honor Oct. 7.
A plaza entry and signage project was completed earlier this month. The $800,000 project was largely funded by donations from alumni and friends.
The sign on the corner of Broadway and University streets was made possible by the board of trustees, who chose to dedicate it to Wesselink.
“This important monument will help us remember the significance of Dave’s legacy,” said Central College president Mark Putnam. “It is symbolic of the commitment he has made to the college as a distinguished alumnus, outstanding trustee, and leading support.”
Wesselink joined the board of trustees in 1991. He served as vice chair from 1998-2005 and was chairman from 2006-2011. He currently holds seats on the executive committee, the advancement committee, investment committee and the committee on trusteeship. He was instrumental in the hiring of Putnam and is a major donor to the college.
“I am frankly overwhelmed,” Wesselink told the board. “All I can say is thank you very much.”
In addition to the signage dedication, his fellow trustees named Wesselink chair emeritus. He is the first Central trustee to receive this distinction.
