Cardboard boxes will cover Central’s practice football field Oct. 24-25 for fraternity BKE’s first Cardboard Campout. This isn’t your typical campout — the fraternity has partnered with Campus Ministries and Student Support Services (SSS) to raise awareness of homelessness and provide the Central community with a night of fun. All proceeds go to Marion County Habitat for Humanity to support families living below the poverty level.
“I want to help create a charitable environment within BKE and the larger Central community,” said Slaney. “This is a great way for people to gain an understanding of what others go through, as well as actually support those people.”
The event starts at 7 p.m. Oct. 24 at Central’s practice football field and ends at 10 a.m. the following morning. Although participants are expected to stay the night, families with children are free to come and go as needed. Cost is $5 per person and $10 per family. Contact Slaney at slaneyt1@central.edu or (641) 451-0439 to sign up or for more information.
