Chris Nou Her-Xiong ’89, founder and executive director at the Hmong American Peace Academy, shared her life story in “Shepherd Express.” She discussed her journey from living in a Thai refugee camp to becoming head of a 2,000 Hmong student charter school in Milwaukee — with a stop in Pella, Iowa. She founded the Hmong American Peace Academy, an MPS charter school and the first Hmong charter school in Wisconsin. It celebrates Hmong heritage, rigorous academics and a community peace program.
