Faculty Recital to Feature Composition by Central Alumnus

Ian Moschenross, Central College Professor of Music

Ian Moschenross, professor of music at Central College, will present a piano recital featuring classical piano music as well as a selection composed by a Central alumnus. The concert will be held in Douwstra Auditorium at Central College at 8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 21.

On the program:

Wyatt Rath, 2018 Central College Alumnus

In addition, the performance will feature a musical piece composed by recent Central alumnus Wyatt Rath ’18. Rath is now a vocal music teacher at West Sioux Community School District in Hawarden, Iowa. Rath’s selection, Quarter-Life, references the quarter-life crisis that many people, particularly college students, experience when transitioning to adulthood.

“People during this time of life might endure feelings of loneliness and confusion, or they just feel lost about who they are and who they want to be,” Rath says. “The composition is meant to illustrate such feelings with sections of unsettling tone clusters underneath a floating melody that first feels lost and later feels found.”

Moschenross joined the Central faculty in 2017. A versatile pianist, he is an active soloist, chamber musician and accompanist. He frequently conducts masterclasses. He teaches applied and group piano as well as music theory courses at Central. In addition, he is an active member of the Iowa Music Teachers Association. He earned degrees from Hanover College and the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
