“Little Shop of Horrors” is Central College’s first mainstage production of the year, running Wednesday-Sunday, Oct. 18-22 in Kruidenier Theatre. Directed by assistant professor of theatre C.D. Adamson, with lecturer of music Erin Bryan directing vocals, the show features a score that is part rock ’n’ roll, part doo-wop and part Motown to tell the story of a florist’s assistant who finds fame, fortune and a whole lot more when he nurtures a strange and scary plant.

Based on the darkly comic Roger Corman film of the same name, “Little Shop of Horrors” became a smash musical when Alan Menken and Howard Ashman created a unique production that swept Off-Broadway awards when it premiered and has been a crowd favorite ever since.

Central shows are Wednesday-Saturday, Oct. 18-21, at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, Oct. 22, at 2 p.m. Tickets are available at the Maytag Student Center information booth, by calling 641-628-9000 and at the door for each performance. Tickets cost $12 per adult and $6 per senior and student (free with Central ID).

Central’s next theater production is “Anon(ymous)” by Naomi Iizuka, which runs in Kruidenier Theatre Wednesday-Saturday, Feb. 21-24 at 7:30 p.m.
