February 15, 2012

Orchestra students from three area high schools will attend Central’s Stringfest ’12 Feb. 23, spending the day in workshops and rehearsals before capping off the event with a 7 p.m. performance in Douwstra Auditorium.

Under the direction of assistant professor of music Ty Myers, students from Pella, Oskaloosa and Des Moines Roosevelt high schools will join the College-Community Orchestra for the evening performance. The repertoire includes selections from Beethoven’s Symphony No. 6, J. Shelley’s arrangement of The Beatles’ “Eleanor Rigby” and “Summer” from Vivaldi’s “The Four Seasons.”

The College-Community Orchestra is a 16-member string ensemble open to all Central students.

Visiting musicians will spend the day in workshops, rehearsals and breakout sessions. Instruction is provided by Central orchestral conducting students.

The concert is free and open to the public. Live video streaming of the performance will be available at www.central.edu/finearts.
