The Sunday Concert Series sponsored by the music department will host a guest artist recital with Dr. Randall Faust on Oct.7. The concert will feature a wide variety of musical compositions, including horn and organ, horn and piano, a woodwind trio and music for wind ensemble.
“The music department is very excited that Dr. Faust feels such a strong connection to Central College and has enthusiastically offered, as a gesture of gratitude, a recital of his own compositions,” said Mitch Lutch, associate professor of music and director of bands.
The son of Claire E. Faust ’41, Randall never attended Central, but it still holds a special place in his heart as the first college campus he ever visited. Today, he is a professor of music at Western Illinois University and a hornist of the Camerata Woodwind Quintet and LaMoine Brass Quintet. He has also served as the president of The International Horn Society.
Students will be able to work with Faust during two recitals in which they will receive feedback from the original composer. “This direct insight from the composer will enhance the nuance of our performance and maintain the composer’s musical intent,” said Lutch.
A number of faculty will be contributing to the performances, as well. Associate professors of music Mark Babcock and Cynthia Doggett will be accompanying Faust on the organ and clarinet, respectively. Claudia Anderson, adjunct instructor of music, will accompany him on flute and Paul Kovacovic, assistant professor of music, with join with the piano.
Faust will be presenting a master class for all French horn players during his residency, Oct. 4-7. The recital will take place at 4 p.m. on Oct. 7 in the Upper Chapel. The event is free and open to the public.
