Central College will host a free conference on global citizenship April 16-17 for educators including faculty advisers, administrators, intercultural educators and study abroad, career development and community-based learning professionals. The conference is a culmination of Central’s year-long focus on global citizenship, recognizing the 50th anniversary of its study abroad programs.
Conference workshops will be led by two keynote speakers with different approaches to deconstructing the mission of shaping global citizens. Matt Clark, program manager for Center for Citizen Diplomacy, will discuss what it means to be a global citizen, and Martin Tillman, president of Global Career Compass, will discuss how educators can collaborate to provide meaningful intercultural experience that prepares students for careers in a global workforce.
In addition, resident directors of Central College study abroad programs will be available for individual appointments each morning. Study abroad alumni will present TED-style talks, and a panel of professionals will share how international experience has shaped their careers.
Thursday evening, guests can enjoy an 8 p.m. recital in Upper Chapel with music from program sites around the world, including France, Spain, Austria, Great Britain and Ghana. Friday evening, faculty, staff and guests will celebrate Central’s 50th anniversary of study abroad at 5:30 p.m. in Maytag atrium.
Shuttles to and from the Des Moines airport will be provided. Guests may attend lunch for $10. Preview the conference schedule and register online.
