Freiburger named director of admission

August 30, 2011

Chevy Freiburger began as director of admission at Central College on August 1. He has eight years of experience at the college.

“Chevy has successfully managed increased responsibilities through several positions at Central,” said Carol Williamson, vice president for enrollment management. “His leadership skills, within the admission office and across campus, will continue to serve us well.”

Freiburger graduated from Coe College in 1998 with a bachelor’s degree in business and German. Before coming to Central, he taught English for the Ministry of Education in Kosai, Japan for three years and then spent a year at State Farm Insurance in Cedar Rapids. He began at Central in 2003 as an admission counselor and then served as an assistant director of admission and associate director of admission. He also worked as the interim director for several months last fall.

“It’s so amazing to introduce prospective students to everything Central has to offer,” said Freiburger. “I feel fortunate to watch how Central impacts students throughout their four years.”

Freiburger is a prominent member of his field. He has served on the executive board of the Iowa Association for College Admission Counseling for six years. He was recently selected to serve on the Current Trends and Future Issues committee for the National Association for College Admission Counseling. Freiburger has been nominated as an Iowa admission professional of the year four times in past years.

“Chevy’s commitment to guiding students and families through the transition from high school to college is recognized not only by his Central College colleagues but also by those across the state and nation,” said Williamson.

During his time in admission, Freiburger has handled recruiting for the Des Moines metro area, onboarding and training and development of staff. He has served on the admission management team and the Pre-College Programs Advisory Council, all of which have given him an appreciation of Central College.

“Because of our strong academic programs and the rich experiences our faculty provide for Central students, they grow intellectually and understand more keenly how they can engage in the world around them,” said Freiburger. “Central faculty and staff create relationships with students that go far beyond their four years on campus.”
