Education Club hosts Scholastic Book Fair

November 22, 2011

The Central College Education Club hosts its annual Scholastic Book Fair Nov. 30- Dec. 2 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Maytag Student Center atrium.

The fair features a large selection of books available for purchase. It will include titles for adults, young adults and children. This year’s adult selection will highlight Iowa bestsellers, including cookbooks. New this year is a Spanish-language section and a selection of children’s Christian titles.

“In the past, faculty and community members have found books for themselves and their children or grandchildren,” said Nikki Boyd, Education Club co-president.

The Education Club, composed of both elementary and secondary education majors, receives a portion of the revenue from the fair. It uses proceeds to buy more books that are donated to schools and local charities.

“As education majors, we understand the importance of literacy,” said Boyd. “We not only want to have books in our own future classrooms but to share the gift of reading with everybody.”

Scholastic Book Fairs partners with schools and colleges across the country to hold over 120,000 fairs every year. In 2009-10, the organization raised over $100 million in fundraising for schools.

The fair is open to the public. For more information, contact Boyd at 515-577-3699 or boydn1@central.edu.
