Dennis Doyle receives communication award

August 23, 2012

The Iowa Communication Association honored Dennis Doyle, professor of communication, with its 2012 Citation Award.

The Citation Award is the highest recognition given by the organization. It is awarded to a professional who has demonstrated exceptional service to communication and/or performing arts over an extended period of time.

As only the third recipient from Central since the award was established in 1973, Doyle is honored by the recognition.

“At the yearly convention, there is always a list of previous award recipients, and it’s very humbling to be listed among those names,” Doyle said.

A faculty member at Central since 1989, Doyle has served as chair of the communication studies department from 1995-1998, 2000-2002 and 2011 to 2012. In his 23 years at Central, he has aided the college by participating in several college committees and faculty development workshops and authoring numerous papers and presentations, several of which address global learning and study abroad.

His previous recognitions include the G. Jon Hall Alumni Recognition Award for Outstanding Service from the communication studies department at the University of Northern Iowa in 1999 and Central’s Huffman Award for Outstanding Service to International Education in 2009. Doyle was also nominated for the 2012 Service to State award presented by the NSAC.

“Personally, I feel this affinity to speech and scholarship from the local to the national level,” he said. “Really, I just enjoy being involved.”
