Central alumna to read at Writers Reading

January 18, 2013

As a part of the Geisler Library Writers Reading series, Sara Perez will read from her collection of creative nonfiction and lyric essays on Jan. 24 in the Geisler Library reading room.

Sara Perez is a poet and nonfiction writer who received her M.F.A in creative writing and environment from Iowa State University. She also holds an M.A. in literature with an emphasis in the study of children’s literature. A Central College alumna, Sara taught kindergarten for a few years after graduating and currently teaches writing and literature at Iowa State, Grand View University and Simpson College. She is seeking publication for her collection of lyric essays.

“I frequently canvass faculty, students and community members for suggestions of authors that they’d like to see here on campus, and Sara’s name has come up several times,” said Natalie Hutchinson, coordinator of the Writers Reading series. “I’m so delighted to be able to showcase a Central alumna in our program and look forward to hearing her read her work!”

This event was made possible by a grant from Humanities Iowa and the National Endowment for the Humanities. The series was established in 1987 to promote an appreciation of books and their authors. The series features locally, nationally and internationally known writers who read and discuss their works.

The event is at 7:30 p.m. and is free and open to the public. For more information, contact Natalie Hutchinson, library director, at 641-628-5220 or hutchinsonn@central.edu.
