The Central College athletic training department hosted a Life Flight training session in August. Six ATs and 45 AT students participated as a Methodist Life Flight helicopter out of Des Moines landed on the Central College practice field.
The group worked with the pilot and four flight-certified RNs who were on the helicopter, along with Pella ambulance staff, to practice techniques related to securing landing and take-offs, approaching the aircraft, loading the aircraft and orientation to the equipment carried by Life Flight.
Procedures for calling in Life Flight during a typical Friday night high school football game in Iowa were also reviewed.
