Featured: Love of the Dutch

Hailing all the way from Colorado, sophomore Megan Davis found her niche with the Central women’s tennis team—and when she’s not on the tennis court, she stays connected with the athletic world as an exercise science major.

Coming to Iowa from Colorado seemed like a long shot, but sophomore Megan Davis found a sense of belonging with the women’s tennis team.

The Littleton, Colo. native found the transition from a big city to small-town Iowa much easier when she bonded with her team. “It’s been a lot of fun meeting and getting to know all of my teammates—it’s easy to transition from a larger city when I love being a part of the Dutch tennis family,” says Davis.

Davis explains that although she had never heard of Central before talking with tennis coach Steve Tyler, she knew that the division-III sports atmosphere was where she wanted to be.

“After hearing Coach Tyler talk about the team and Central, I decided to visit campus,” she says. “I really liked the campus, and I knew my decision would come down to playing a sport at a small school.”

Megan DavisShe chose Central, and hasn’t looked back since. Davis joined the basketball team along with tennis, but has since decided to focus on tennis during her remaining years at Central. However, her love of sports hasn’t diminished—as an exercise science major, she is able to stay hands-on in the athletic arena.

“I wanted to stay in the world of sports and I thought it would be a good combination of being in the athletic and medical world,” she says. “I enjoy all my exercise science classes, especially anatomy.”

When Davis isn’t dividing her time between athletics and academics, the Spanish minor spends time at Pella Christian Elementary with first grade students, helping them to learn Spanish. And all her time at Central has made her realize how much she is learning about herself and her future.

“I would like to study abroad and go on mission trips sponsored by Central,” she says. “My time on campus has been amazing so far, and next year, I hope that my connections at Central will help me gain an internship in physical therapy so I can get started on my future career.”
