The American Institute of CPAs has announced Grant Seuferer is a winner of the 2015 Elijah Watt Sells Award. Seuferer, a Central College graduate in 2014, is now a tax consultant for Deloitte in Des Moines and has completed a Master of Accounting degree from Iowa State University. The prestigious award was earned by just .08 percent of 2015 CPA candidates.

“I credit Central for providing the knowledge and tools I need to succeed,” Seuferer said. “The education I received at Central was top-notch, and my experiences there pushed me to become a better student, athlete and person. So thank you to all of the faculty, staff, and coaches at Central.”

The Elijah Watt Sells Award was given to CPA candidates who obtained a cumulative average score above 95.50 across all four sections of the Uniform CPA Examination, passed all four sections of the examination on the first attempt and completed testing in 2015.

A total 93,742 individuals sat for the examination in 2015, and Seuferer was one of only 75 candidates who met the criteria to receive the Elijah Watt Sells Award.

The award program was established by the AICPA in 1923 to recognize outstanding performance on the CPA Examination. Sells, one of the first CPAs in the U.S., played a key role advancing professional education within the profession.

At Central, Seuferer also played varsity baseball and graduated with a perfect 4.0 cumulative GPA.

“He was a very dedicated student,” said assistant professor of accounting Maggie Schlerman. “I’m happy to see that his hard work has been recognized on a national level. Our entire department is very proud of Grant’s accomplishment.”
